The Official Announcement: We’re Having a Baby!

Posted in Family at 10:20 pm by Sean

All the rumors are true. Nyki is officially 7 weeks pregnant tomorrow, and we’ve finally decided to tell everyone. Ultrasound pictures are here. No, we don’t know what it is, yet. Yes, we are intending on finding out prior to its birth. Due date is approximately 4 February 2009. Wanna know more? Follow the link below…

After 14 months of officially trying (and trying, and trying), we finally resorted to getting a little help from modern medicine. Around the beginning of May, we underwent intrauterine insemination. On May 26 (Memorial Day) Nyki took a pregnancy test, and we were extremely delighted to find out that we were pregnant.

Note: She keeps telling me “we” are pregnant, and since she’s the boss right now, I guess “we” are pregnant.

Nyki had called to me from the bedroom doorway with one of those “I just found a spider and I need you to kill it” kind of voices. I came down the hall grumbling because I don’t like to kill spiders that early in the morning. There she was, standing there with her mother, holding a pregnancy test when she told me, “We’re pregnant.” So, my first words? “You’re kidding…” Cut me some slack, it was about 5 minutes after I woke up, I had just let the puppies out, and my mother-in-law was staying with us for the weekend (really, I do love Rychie, but it’s fun to tell the story this way, and I know she’ll read this ;-) ). In all seriousness, though, after months of disappointment, I didn’t want to be messed with. All I can say is that I seriously feel for those who have real trouble having children — we had nowhere near that bad of an experience, but it was still bad enough.

So, about 2 weeks ago, we got a chance to go to Nyki’s OB/GYN, who was extremely excited to see the green dot on Nyki’s folder (apparently that means you’re pregnant, they kept referring to it that way). In fact, the physican’s assistant who normally takes Nyki through the preliminaries was ecstatic! Honestly, it made me feel good about the place to see how happy everyone was for us. However, I am not entirely happy with her OB, Catherine Case. She kept talking about the possibility of “multiple heartbeats”. All these people need other things to think about. I’m joking, of course. Nyki on the other hand, was delighted at the idea. Hmmm… baby brain already causing her to lose her mind. Gotta watch for that.

Pregnancy Report, Week 7: in the two weeks since we found out Nyki was officially “with child” (note to self, need more synonyms for “pregnant”), she’s gone through 5 jars of pickles, the hyper-active senses are starting to freak me out, but she’s not been experiencing any morning sickness other than the occasional nausea. They told us that Week 10 was the worst, so I’m anticipating something. *gulp* No serious cravings unless you count our trips to the little Mexican trailer over in Eastwood Shopping Center (if those are cravings, I’m having a sympathy pregnancy — man, that place is good!).

Future Dad Report, Week 7: No noticable changes. Waiting for her belly to get bigger than mine. Finding that sleep is near impossible with the “space heater” next to me in bed. Have been given “What to Expect When Your Wife is Expanding” to read. Need to start that at some point. Enjoyed my first “Fa—-’s Day” (I don’t get full credit, yet) on Sunday.

Give us a call or shoot us an email. We’ll try to give everyone a call over the next few days. It’s a bit hectic around here right now, so please bear with us. All we have to do is get through Saturday, and we’ll be ok.

    Dear Nicky & Sean,
You cant imagine how happy I am to “officially” hear the news, of course I found out through alternate ways - je je but I decided to give you some space and wait for the announcment to come.

Dont even think that I will stay wherever I am when my nephew/neece (dont know how to spell that - sorry) is born so I will start planning my trip to go and see you guys when you find it convenient.

I am extremely excited that I will be an “auntie” from my SISCO (she knows what this means) - this is the moment we’ve been talking about since she was 10 years old, hey Nicky - time has gone by quite fast eh!!!! so, I wont take much of your time so you can run to the mexican food, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! and please keep me posted on the development of the baby (ies?) and of course - on how you guys are doing.

Congrats - I know how excited you both are. Looks like Emme may have to share her birthday with a cousin.

Enjoy the moment as the “quiet” times are quickly going to come to an end.

Congratulations! What great news! We’re not sure who the baby looks like. We hope everything goes well and Sean doesn’t gain too much weight. It’s hard to lose.
